Dow
Based on a true story. After Shahid is denied naturalization based on illiteracy, immigrant George Dow prepares an appeal for citizenship with the help of an attorney. When news breaks of a Syrian family lynched in Florida, Dow faces an intense recognition of the potential consequences of his decision. Facing conflict from his uncle, Dow decides to pursue going to court the next day despite the vulnerability that having his story published may cause him. As Dow speaks, we see the future he fights for reflected. Refreshingly a-political, we view a story involving a court case from a humanitarian perspective. Forefronting hope with balancing the not-so-pretty realities of going to court, Dow does not strike as the typical courtroom drama.
